Who’s in it? Keanu Reeves, Judy Greer, Fisher Stevens, Vera Farmiga, James Caan

The plot Henry (Reeves) is a hapless man trapped in a boring marriage to Debbie (Greer), and working a dreary job as a tollbooth operator. Tricked into ostensibly attending a baseball game with his pals Eddie (Stevens) and Joe (Hoch), Henry finds himself involved in a botched bank heist. Refusing to name his partners in crime, he’s sent down and finds himself sharing his cell with Max (Caan), a kind-hearted con man.

Released a year later, Henry convinces Max to help him rob the same bank he copped jail time for attempting to turn over in the first place. And as part of their plan, Henry takes the lead role in Chekhov play The Cherry Orchard and soon falls for his leading lady (and bank worker) Julie (Farmiga).

What we liked
The combination of crime story and comedy is a winning one, with the fire-and-ice mix of Vera Farmiga and Keanu Reeves adding a snappier rhythm to the whole heist genre. And the scene-stealing legend Caan is in one of his best roles in ages.

What we didn’t like Henry’s Crime is guilty of taking a little too long to find its purpose. The film does provide some subtle comic moments and edge-of-your-seat excitement, but the twists and turns are predictable to anyone who’s seen a romcom or heist flick – with the ending semaphored a mile off.
